Photographer Spotlight: Anthony Helton

This week's photographer spotlight features the work of Anthony Helton.
Anthony Helton is a pet photographer who runs his own pet photo business, Purple Collar Pet Photography, in Sacramento, California.
Helton's biggest inspiration is his chocolate lab, Samantha.
She is often featured in his personal work.
One of the things I find most interesting about pet photography is the photographer's ability to capture the expression and personality of the animals. And I think Anthony Helton does a great job of that in his pet portraits.

Visiting Photographer Spotlight: Tony Schanuel

Earlier this week, my digital photography class was visited by a local photographer named Tony Schanuel.

Once a resident artist for the Foundry Art Centre in Saint Charles, Missouri, he has over thirty years of photography experience and we were lucky enough to have him speak to us about his journeys in the field.

Not only does Mr. Schanuel do great stand-alone photography work, but he also combines photos with graphic illustration elements to make for even more interesting pieces! (See below.)

I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to listen to his stories and look at some of his work.

Photographer Spotlight: Chip Phillips

This week's photographer spotlight illustrates the work of Chip Phillips.
"Vertical Mossy Elowah"                                                                 "Metlako Mist"
Chip Phillips is a landscape photographer from Washington state, who recently found his love for photography in 2006, when his father gave him an old Pentax film camera. Now, Phillips shoots in digital and strives to combine his love of photography and nature.
"North Cascades Sunrise"
"Grand Teton Summer Evening Rays"
"Jasper Sunset"

Phillips's landscapes are breathtaking and are filled with rich, vibrant color and dramatic shadow.
"Barn and Rainbow, Palouse"
"Palouse Storm"
"Mount Stuart Sunburst"                         "Palouse Lupine Rays"               "Southern Oregon Coast Sea Arch"
"Grand Teton Sunset"
Phillips often captures the beautiful light and color of dusk and dawn, the gorgeous reflections on standing water, the fluid movement of running water, and the looming eeriness of heavy fog.
"Leigh Lake Reflections"                            "Snake River Dawn"                            "Vertical String LakeSunrise"
"Tree Henge"
"Ecola at Dawn"
As you can see, Phillips especially enjoys photographing mountains.
He often revisits these places to capture the same subjects at different times of the year (below).
"Mount Rundle Sunrise"                                                           "Winter Morning, Vermillion"

Photographer Spotlight: Justin Nixon

This week's photographer spotlight exhibits the work of Justin Nixon.
"Detail: Evergreen"
Justin Nixon is a photographer from Baltimore, Maryland.

He photographs a wide range of subjects. But, as you can see, he seems especially interested in capturing scenic landscapes.

"Flowering Field"
"Rehoboth Jetty"                                                                     "Dawn of a New Day"
My favorite factor in Nixon's photographs is the color. It's stunning. I love the vibrancy!

"Soy Field Sunset"
The contrast in the shadows and highlights also help to create very dramatic shots, which I love too.

"Disconnected"
"Sands of Time"
The picture above may be my favorite of those I posted here today. I'm especially drawn to the movement of sand downward in the composition.

"Blue Bee"                                                                                 "Sparring"
I just had to include these two photos in today's set. (If you haven't noticed already, I really like wildlife photography.)

If you also enjoyed the images I shared with you today, you should check out Justin Nixon's...
